INFO:
Ludwig Göransson won an Oscar for his work on ‘Black Panther’ (2018). That film was very rich thematically, and ‘Wakanda Forever’ (2022) certainly delivers on that front also. Göransson did not receive a nomination for Best Score for ‘Wakanda Forever’, but he did receive a nomination for Best Original Song, ‘Lift Me Up’. ‘Black Panther’ featured a theme for Shuri that was plucky, optimistic and seemed to be played on some form of steel drum. It is the theme that kind of resembles ‘All of the Lights’ by Kanye West. This original theme is perfect for Shuri’s character in that first film. She’s optimistic, playful and young. Shuri’s original theme returns 3 times in ‘Wakanda Forever’, to my knowledge. Firstly when she and Okoye watch Riri from a distance. Secondly when Shuri arm-wrestles M’Baku and lastly when Shuri and Namor stand on the ship and call off the battle. There are some other references to the motif through the film but none as clear as those. Shuri receives a new theme in ‘Wakanda Forever’. This theme is often heard being played on powerful, Vangelis-esque synthesisers; and is both hopeful and sad, depending on how it is played. This matches with Shuri’s far darker characterisation in this sequel. I absolutely love that Göransson holds off on using her original, upbeat theme until the end of the film, when some of her old-self returns. The tracks ‘Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Vengeance Has Consumed Us’ features Shuri’s original theme being played with the same instrumentation and timing as T’Challa’s theme. A fantastic way to represent Shuri becoming Black Panther, and following her brother’s path. The songs used in this suite are: ‘Spaceship Bugatti’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘United Nations / End Titles’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Glory to Bast’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Blood for Blood’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Mama’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Yibambe!’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘It Could Have Been Different’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Vengeance Has Consumed Us’ - Ludwig Göransson ‘Wakanda Forever’ - Ludwig Göransson The images are from ‘Black Panther’ (2018) and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2022) and belong to The Walt Disney Corporation. | Albums | Black Panther - Ludwig Göransson - https://music.apple.com/ie/album/black-panther-original-score/1440628690 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Ludwig Göransson - https://music.apple.com/ie/album/black-panther-wakanda-forever-original-score/1653660187
