A recording of our popular Model, Model, Model!!! webinar. For most of us who develop speech, we are exposed to models of spoken language from the day we are born. In fact, we have around 9-12 months of having language modelled to us until we being to use spoken words. By hearing the language modelled we begin to assign meaning to words. We will discuss the importance of modelling when supporting AAC and strategies that can support this. When someone is learning to use their AAC system or is building up new skills they can sometimes need some guidance to find the words they need. Whilst it is important to allow time to respond, if someone has not responded after some time it may be that using a gentle prompt can help them. We will discuss prompting strategies and techniques.
