INFO:
As you know I grow a lot of my plants in containers. Which I usually fill with plants that I’ve grown from seed like cosmos, zinnia, phlox, amaranth or stocks - but I love to add some bits from the garden centre to create even more impact around the base of the plant. Here are my top 5: 1️⃣Lobelia I love lobelia as it doesn’t grow tall, but it cascades or trails over the edge of pots or from hanging baskets. So this is a brilliant plant to put plant on the edge of pots to give you that frothy overflowing feel. You can also get it in a number of different colours depending on your vibe. This year i’ve gone for a deep blue and a lovely bright pink. 2️⃣Bacopa Similarly to lobelia this trails, but not quite as frothy as lobelia. Although Bacopa really gives you that cottage garden vibe with it’s quite simple white, pink (or even blue, i think) flowers. I love how this looks growing out of my up-cycled planters 3️⃣Diascia Another gorgeous plant with delicate flowers, i’ve planted ‘apple blossom’ this year in a number of smaller terracotta pots dotted around the garden 4️⃣Geraniumsu002FPelargoniums These were one of the first flowers I ever bought for the garden and I always add more each year. They look lovely in my little terracotta pots or in my planters on the wall. You can also get trailing varieties too which work well in hanging baskets. I have tried to over-winter these in the greenhouse before and not had much success but I think if you bring them indoors or into a conservatory they become more perennial, which is handy. 5️⃣Gypsophila Another frothy favourite - which I usually grow on its own trailing out of an old milk churn or pot. I love how delicate and tiny the flowers are. There are loads more I love too - like Namesia, Brachyscome, petunias and of course Erigeron! I can’t wait to share how all of these look later in the season when they’ve grown and trailed over the edge or filled out the pots. So i’ll be sure to update you. Cx
